I love it! March 15, 2010 J. Rooney (Hampshire, England, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You will probably read some good and some bad reviews as i did when going to buy this.
I would like to first note. ANY FM transmitter will not work as well as a line in or tape deck input, if you want that then go buy a new head unit for your car.
However, this item works just wonderfully for me. I drive a 2006 VW polo with the standard radio with no modifications, as many drivers of this car will note, it is very annoying that there is no way to plug your mp3 player in!
However this item suits the job perfectly, i tuned it into an area of fm frequency not used by many stations in my area(88.7) as most commercial stations seem to like to stay above the 90.0 mark.
There is a slight amount of crackle every now and then, but for the majority of the time the songs are seamless. Yes you do have to turn the radio up abit when using it, but not as much as other reviews seem to be describing. This is probably helped that my ZEN micro used has quite a loud output.
I would advise this product to anyone needing an FM transmitter, i have used a few, and this is by far the best.
The build quality is also up to the mark, feeling very sturdy and being made out of strong plastics, with nice thick cables. The 12v plug fits the hole perfectly (please no "thats what she said jokes!") unlike many cheaper varients.
Advise to anyone with problems using this.
These items can be quite tricky to set up perfectly but once done, they are a joy. If the songs are crackly all the time, you will find re tuning and trying many diffrent "empty" frequencys can help. However, alot of the problems can come from the mp3 player or music source itself. Fist of all, do not have the volume up all the way on the mp3 player, about 75% will be ample, anymore and the music can distort. Secondly, these units don't handle bass incredibly well, so try turning your EQ to minimal bass or "spoken word" or some other varient that minimises bass, if you then turn the bass to MAX on your head unit, you will not notice a diffrence.
Hope this review helped! I love mine!
Superb FM transmitter! January 5, 2010 Mr. M. J. Foxall (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Iv seen some bad and good reviews about this product, however from personal experience I would highly recommend it! I bought this as a christmas present for my sister to connect her mp3 player in her car and after taking just 10 minutes to program the 6 best channels, it works flawlessly every time! My friends have numerous different types of FM transmitters and none seem to get as clear a reception and sound as this one! The fact it charges your mp3/ipod at the same time is a huge bones and the backlight on the screen makes it superb even in the dark! Don't waste your time with other models! This is excellent!!!
Ok, but not brilliant November 17, 2009 Mr. G. Bailey (Wales) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a very good quality FM transmitter. The only touble is the lack of quite fm frequencies these days. If you need an FM transmitter then this is very good. But like good sound without static interuptions might be better off finding an alternative way of playing music in your car (like a new stero with an aux input)
Griffin I trip November 10, 2009 Bill (Cumbernauld Scotland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The pruduct I received was faulty. It kept cutting out, when it did work the reception was poor to say the least. I returned it and bought another make from Asda which work great.
Not up to the job November 7, 2009 M. Williams (South Wales) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this to replace an even cheaper transmitter that had worked perfectly until it started to develop a fault with the jack. My first gripe with this product was that the protective plastic film that covered the display/button area left a difficult to remove sticky residue. I could've forgiven that if it had actually worked well, but although it is simple enough to operate and does work to some extent, I have found that not only does it struggle to maintain reception on a journey where I had no issues with its predecessor, but it automatically assumes reception loss with many of the tracks on my MP3 player and you end up with white noise every 30 seconds. The only remedy is to retune, and switch track. This would be fine if my MP3 player was filled with only death metal tracks. It is not. For your information, I was using it with a Creative Zen X-Fi player which is a very good device, but even with the volume turned up full on the Zen (which made some tracks crackly), it still loses signal on any non-raucous tracks. As aforementioned, none of these problems occurred on the previous, and cheaper device I was using. For me at least, the Griffin was useless and is being returned.
