over priced & useless August 14, 2010 Mr. Ian C. Hubbert (bury st edmunds u.k.) I've had this bit of kit for 4 months, it's totally useless, I can tune it in perfectley outside my house & as soon as I turn on the car & move away I get nothing. I have tried tuning it into different frequencies, but to no avail.
Buy anything else but this bit of £45 rubbish, totally worthless !!
Good product but July 11, 2010 Kent Ken (UK) Well made and the bendy stalk means that it can be adjusted for most positions. Dos'nt like vertically mounted 12v sockets , works best with horizontal deep 12v sockets(the deeper the better)
As with all FM transmitters finding a good frequency can be a problem, particularly in SE England. The autoseek function is OK but does not always find a good interference free frequency. We found that getting to know how to set it up manually is a good idea then manually setting the presets. In SE London and Kent we found that 87.7 works well, but beware on occasions it loses frequency when first turned on.
Overall very good sound quality much better than others we have had.
Lovely May 30, 2010 Barneyballs (Wales) Really good design. Not bulky like many others. The base is red when charging then green when fully charged which is quite neat. The neck seems tough enough for now and hold the phone well.... Would definately recommend.
Worst piece of tech I have ever used. May 17, 2010 A. Davis I can quite honestly say this is probably one of the worst pieces of kit I have ever used and the whole experience at its best is miserable! I recently purchased this to use with my new iPhone+iPod+Sat Nav application and have found the product is basically unusable! For me the main problems with this device were as follows:
- The FM frequency drops off constantly and therefore needs reprogramming which can be quite hazardous whilst driving, and unfortunately the smart scan is useless as it will pick up a frequency that will only last a minute or so before needing to be re-scanned due to station interference.
- I couldn't get this to consistently charge my iPhone. The charging was fine when I initially I clipped it in to the dock, however after just a couple of minutes due to the tightness of the cradle the iPhone would slowly get pushed up just enough to no longer charge although all other features i.e. FM transmission were OK. I had the pleasure of discovering this when a warning came up with 20% of battery remaining when I was only part way through my journey - I then had to constantly push the iPhone back onto the pins every few minutes for it to charge.
- You have to make sure you secure the arm/iPhone against something in the car otherwise it can flop all over the place whilst driving.
- Due to the two reasons mentioned directly above you get a non stop barrage of iPhone warning's asking if you would like to enter aeroplane mode or saying this device is not compatible with the iPhone. These then need to be clicked off screen which adds yet another distraction whilst your driving.
Simply put this is a fantastic concept but in reality a truly painful, flawed, and dangerous device to use.
"Works with iPhone" doesn't mean it works well May 2, 2010 Leonardo PACH (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm a bit disappointed with the product. It says it works with iPhone, but doesn't state the specific models. It happens it is designed for iPhone (1G) and iPhone 3G, but not iPhone 3GS.
It still works with iPhone 3GS, but when you plug the iPhone there appears a message saying that the product is not designed for it and offering to turn "Airplane Mode" on (or, turning the iPhone into an iPod Touch). It is not mandatory to accept the message to use the product, so it is just annoying.
After that, the product works but with quirks. For example, if I start my car with the iPhone plugged in the device, the iPhone reboots (!) and looses the date/time configuration (!!!). I'm not sure, but perhaps it caused the iPod app to loose track of the album covers assigned to each song (some songs started to display the wrong album cover, and I only noticed it after the reboots).
I also tested it with my iPod Classic 160GB (first generation of iPod Classics, when the 160GB was offered for the first time). With the iPod the device works perfectly, but unfortunately it doesn't come with and adapter for this model of iPod (it does come with adapters for iPod Classic 80GB/120GB). I'm using the iPod without any adapters, which is no big deal.
The device also has issues with finding empty spectrum. It has been reporting some frequencies as empty even when they aren't. Smartscan is not very smart, it appears. You can experiment and find an empty frequency manually, anyway.
