Can't handle large range, but otherwise fantastic! March 5, 2010 Siavash Gholami (London, UK) In comparison to the Belkin transmitter I had before this, this is far far superior.
Here's where I find this transmitter to be excellent:
1) Autoscan: Takes 15 seconds to find 3 optimal, noise-free stations, and sets them as preset.
2) Stays on even when no sound is being played. Some transmitters switch off if they don't detect sound for 5-10 seconds, bt this stays on which is useful for iPhones, as you can go from music to phone call, back to music without being annoyed!
3) Audio quality is very good, with low noise-levels.
4) Design is good, meaning the cables and such don't get in your way; my previous transmitter would get stuck in the gear lever quite often due to the cables coming out from the bottom of the unit.
Now for the problem I faced.
I noticed that playing very large range music (deep bass, vocals, high trebles, all at the same time), so for example breakbeats, or trance even, are handles very poorly by this device. It sounds like it can't handle all the sounds simultaneously, and therefore it alternates in dropping out sounds. This is annoying, because listening to a fast beat, you'll constantly hear a basskick, snare hit, cymbal, or even vocal, dropping out, and it gives you a headache.
Initially, I switched off the "SmartSound" option, which actually improved it, but the problem still persist for the loudest tracks.
But, if you listen to hip-hop, pop, and possibly most rock, you should enjoy this device a lot.
Great Product, easy to use and good quality sound February 19, 2010 fatgazza Previous versions of this product that plugged into the top of the earlier iPods I found suffered from 3 problems; radiophonic disturbance (you could hear noise on the radio if the unit was knocked), a tendency to lose the frequency tuned to and sound quality vs volume setting of iPod.
This unit is a great improvment. The autoscan tuner works as advertised and I have not suffered from lost tunings - although I have only had the unit a few days now. The sound quality (obviously not hi-fi, but then you are in a car) is much improved - there seems to be a 'normalisation' option in the unit which keeps volume rich and steady. Finally, no radiophonic noise I can hear, and much less interference from local radio stations (I travel regularly in Bucks,Beds,Oxon).
A great little product and I would have given it 5 stars but the first unit I recieved was DOA. Amazon provided a quick refund, so full marks to them too.
Griffin i-trip February 18, 2010 Teddy (Suffolk, UK) Delivered on time. Plugged in and away it went. No problems with any interference, however, in London it's quite difficult to find clear stations. Other than this this is a good product and is great for car journeys with all your music and playlists easily available.
Easy to use December 29, 2009 Mrs. A. Marshall (Scotland) I bought this for my husband as a gift from our kids - he loved it. Took a little bit of work to tune in the iPod Nano but once the correct frequency was found it was really clear. I got this one as the layout of our car meant that some of the others would get in way of the gear stick etc.
Very happy December 23, 2009 R. Bethell (moray, scotland) Bought this to use with my 4th Gen Nano and my partners 2nd Gen Nano. Works superbly well with both, quickly picking up frequencies whilst on the move. It has the great advantage of charging your Ipod whilst transmitting, a massive bonus for long journeys.
Highly recommended
