| Customer Reviews: Excellent gadget for older version iPod Video (30g) April 20, 2010 Mrs. C. Tabb I am delighted with this microphone. I've spent a lot of time trying to resource a microphone that would work with my iPod. As I have an older version video iPod (30G late 2007 version) there didn't seem to be many choices available to me. If a 5th generation iPod classic was mentioned it was always one with a higher memory capacity so I really didn't know if my iPod had the necessary software to use a microphone. Well I tried a friend's iTalk griffin with my iPod at the weekend and was pleasantly surprised when a "voice memos" section appeared in my menu. It works!!
I want to use it to tape choir rehearsals and be able to play it back. Until now I have been using an Olympus Digital Voice Recorder VN-3100PC which worked to a degree - it was always a bit of a slog to get the recordings downloaded and then into some sort of format I could play (and I never managed to get them to play on my iPod which would have been the best choice for me.) With the Griffin I can play them back immediately on my iPod and can easily make playlists of the recordings through iTunes... AND the quality is a lot better than the Olympus... I couldn't be happier! I just wish I knew these existed before I paid for an Olympus!
WHAT? WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU! January 25, 2008 Gilno Carswell (Douglas, Isle of Man) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Pros:
Sound quality is clear.
small size.
very easy to use.
The Cons:
extremely directional, will only pick up extremely small radius of sound.
will only pick up loud sounds, and they have to be pretty close as well.
recordings are incredibly quiet.
The other reviews talk of using it for interviews or lectures. I may not be a professinal interviewer but I think you'd have to get your subject to speak extremely loudly at point blank range to pick them up.
I wanted to record very rough tunes I compose so I don't have to scrabble around with manuscript paper. It's of no use to me. I wish my old Belkin would fit the new Ipod, that one was really excellent.
HOWEVER if you want something to hold right up to your face and mumble self indulgent thoughts into this could be the one for you.
Very good overall October 8, 2007 Imran Rahim (Manchester,United Kingdom) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've used this again and again and I'm really pleased with it. Recording has two options I believe: high and low. I haven't recorded much on low but the quality is satisfactory and makes sense if you're recording something whose quality you're not bothered about. On high, you get a CD quality recording which sounds amazing. Only problem, and this is more a fault of the iPod itself is that it saves as a WAV file which is massive! An hour recording usually takes up about 600-700Mb which can then be convereted to mp3 and becomes about 10% of that.
So basically clear your iPod and charge it up fully if you're going to record something.
This works with the 2G nano and the new 3G nano video. Not sure about 1st Gen.
