Note - must always be plugged into cigarette lighter August 28, 2008 D. Thompson (U.K.) After spending a while trying to decide which of the many iTrip variations would be most useful, I decided on this one as I thought it would give me the option to charge my iPod on the go as well as listen to my music. Well, in fairness to Griffin and Amazon, the item was delivered on time, and it works perfectly well - good clear reception and easy to set up. My only gripes would be that a) the power supply fits quite loosely into the cigarette lighter, and occaisionally falls out, and b) you must ALWAYS have it plugged into the cigarette lighter for it to work. I thought it would be optional, and that if it wasn't plugged in it would draw power from the iPod, but this is not the case - as soon as the cigarette lighter is unplugged, the whole thing turns off. Not a show-stopper, but if you also use a SatNav that requires power from the same socket, you're forced to either buy a 2-1 adaptor to get the extra socket, or choose between the iTrip and the SatNav. I didn't think this was at all clear from the product description, and if I had known I think I would have bought one that didn't require the power adaptor. Other than those points, as said before, it all works fine, so really I'm docking just one star for the product, and one star for the product description. I hope this helps other potential customers.
Not compatible with iPhone 3G! August 19, 2008 JC This product is not compatible with iPhone 3G. It does not charge the iPhone so if you use this in your car the battery on your phone will be flat in 30 minutes. Also, the signal is so weak my radio can't find it.
I really like this item. July 16, 2008 C. Hunt (Chesterfield UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Griffin iTrip Auto FM Transmitter for iPod - Black
I bought this item after reading reviews on this and other types of FM transmitters and decided that this was one of the better ones on the market despite a few negative reviews.
I am pleased to say that my decision was correct and this is an excellent FM transmitter. I haven't even had to search for a different frequency on the iTrip, it's still on the default 88.1Mhz.
If anyone out there is not sure if they should buy one or not, then I hope that reading this would encourage them to purchase one.
fantastic device July 11, 2008 mrchowdery (england) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have struggled with 3 previous devices like this and all had average results usually with a hiss. This device is fantastic, works like a dream, within 10 seconds i had a station tuned in, the presets seem to work best. audio quality fantastic, no hiss with good volume. and it charges my ipod as i go, ideal solution to the probem of ipods with rubbish battery life further diminished by a device feeding off its battery. All i can say is its worth the extra money and works a treat.
Fabulous June 25, 2008 S. Booth (Wales) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Volvo S60, no option to change stereo, no aux in, no cassette so no cassette adaptor... it had to be an FM transmitter.
The first 'cheapo' one I had was fine - proving that they can work in my car - but died. When it came to replacing it I chose this one on the basis of features-for-the-money. I did extensive reading on-line in an effort to choose a 'works for definite' one... found that they all have good and bad reviews and I suspect that it's more to do with 'works fine in this or that vehicle' than the products themselves.
As well as playing music (well) through my car stereo (and loud enough - a challenge for UK iPods with cheapo transmitters)... it has the added bonus of the RDS transmission so I can see who is singing what displayed on the radio display (admittedly 8 characters at a time, not scrolling but line-by-line). It's a bonus feature which I already really appreciate!
I wouldn't hesitate to choose this again - highly recommended!
